Banks observes the human condition and its relationship to the natural world using the word chinmoku, meaning, ‘silence’ in Japanese, to describe her practice of capturing both figurative and abstract imagery.
Her inspiration is derived from cycling and running within the landscape and exploring the inner landscapes of the mind. Her current work is influenced by Carl Roger’s 'Conditions of Worth' as she explores the boundaries of expectation between artist and viewer.
Banks’ paintings with their bold brushstrokes and colourful painted imagery, give the false impression of simplicity when in actuality they convey a sense of presence, the silent spaces in between our realities.
